We interviewed this year’s E-Team participants from Illinois and here is Jessica Davis’ story from E-Team Chicago…

I am so glad that I did E-Team this year. It has been the best experience of my life and has changed my life drastically. Going on E-Team Chicago gave me the chance to meet some amazing people and it allowed God to show me where help is really needed.

I didn’t really know what I was supposed to do with my life until I went on E-Team and actually gave God the chance to change my life and I got closer to Him. It was a totally different experience from what I expected.

Training week had a huge impact on me and was actually harder than I expected it to be, but I still loved it. My favorite class was definitely Benchmark. It forced me to talk to people and to work with them and because of it I really got to know my team and now they are still some of my best friends. Some people might say that they hate going to worship services, but these were nothing like any that I have ever been to. These services were amazing and you could always feel God there, it was awesome!

In Chicago we tried a lot of new foods that I didn’t always like, but there was this one thing in a polish restaurant that I don’t remember the name of but it was like a folded cheese thing with other stuff in it that I did not ask about. But I know that it tasted awesome.

I loved Chicago so much and I saw a need there that maybe I can help with and be a part of making a difference there. So I am definitely going back. My plans are to go to college there and get a degree as a teacher and get close to the children there and hopefully I will get the chance to tell the people there about God and what He can do for them.

I would encourage every one to join E-Team if they ever get the chance, not only will they get the chance to make a difference in other peoples’ lives, but it will change their own lives too. I am so much closer to God since E-Team and I would say that it has probably been the best choice I ever made.

Some Q&A with Holly Petty of E-Team St Croix…

Q: You are the veteran at this E-Team stuff by now (this is Holly’s 3rd year). What was really special or unique about this year?
A: This year was awesome because we got to do some manual labor and some performances of our mime and singing. (Not to mention we had some time to do some sight seeing of some very famous places!)

Q: How do you think E-Team has impacted your life back home?
A: One huge thing I have noticed is my prayer life for the missionaries has grown. Also usually on E-TEAM you work with kids in Bible School or a kid carnival of some sort…when your there working it’s so difficult trying to help out because of the language barrier. You try so hard to get around it, when you get back home its so easy for me to get involved because I’m just so happy I can talk to them and they can understand!

Q: How do you see yourself doing missions as you move on to college and then later in life?
A: Well, I’m going to FWBBC this year to start on my nursing degree. My life long dream has been to go on the Hanna Project on one of their medical teams and help out.

Q: Tell us about your ministry in France, what new people did you meet, what kind of work did you do, how did you try to support the missionaries on that field?
A: We got to help with a Kid Carnival and be apart of the St. Nazaire choir when they sang at the festival. It was a great experience and I loved singing with them. We met a lot of people and got to know a lot of people because we stayed in homes and had host families. Most of the families had at least one person that spoke a little bit of English. Staying with families is always a blessing and an amazing opportunity to get to know people.
We got to help Matt and Cristina Price by repainting a lot of the inside of their home. It was time for the Bryans to have a visit home so we worked all day getting everything ready like cleaning, yard work, washing their van and packing.

Q: Did you have any moments where you knew God was at work in your life or the life of your team?
A: During the week of training there is usually a concert of prayer. This year during the concert of prayer God just spoke to me and gave me peace about so many things going on in my life. I really felt how much He loves me and cares for me and He made sure I knew He was here for me in my decision making as I’m going off to college..

Q: How has E-Team changed your life and what would you tell other students about this opportunity?
A: Yes, it has changed my life. It has changed my world view and opened my eyes to the world wide need for Christ. I think all high school students whether planning to go into missions or not should prayerfully consider going on E-TEAM.

Q: This was a whole new experience for you, what was something that was quite a bit different than you expected?
A: Pretty much everything, but I really didn’t expect to get as close to my team as I did.

Q: How would you describe the training week?
A: It was crazy, but fun, and very tiring.

Q: What were the worship services like?
A: They were amazing!! The singing was one of my favorite parts of training, it was great!

Q: What was your favorite class?
A: The culture class was my favorite, because it gave us an idea about what St.Croix was going to be like.

Q: What people really impacted you during training week and why?
A: James Evans…his “games” really helped our team to work with each other.

Q: What’s something that you learned during training week that you think might stick with you?
A: That praying isn’t just talking to God, it’s listening….

Q: So tell us about St. Croix… How was it different than home? In what ways was it similar?
A: It was different in a lot of ways. Everything goes slower there. No one is in too big of a hurry, so a restaurant we consider fast food actually took a while there. Also, the people are very different from people here. They also drive on the left side of the road, which took some getting used to. It’s similar in that they speak English just with a strong accent.

Q: Did you have any moments where you just knew God was at work?
A: Yes! several times, but the one that I think about the most is the amazing results that we got from our prayer walks and our water project…we saw God work in our efforts there really quickly, and I’ve never experienced anything like that before.

Q: What was your favorite new dish?
A: Lobster…I’d never had it before.

Q: Would you like to go back? Why?
A: Yes!! I would go back to see the people that I met and all the kids that I got to know…and the island is beautiful!! I would go back any day.

Q: What would you tell any other students who were interested in E-Team?
A: Go for it! It’s so amazing!! It will change the way you think of missionaries, it did for me anyway; I am so glad that I went.
