On the evening of Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, Byford Lee Campbell and Wastina Faye Campbell passed away at their home in Ina. The couple were extraordinary individuals that had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on April 21 of this year. Both Byford and Wastina had a great love for God, their family and will be greatly missed.
Byford Lee Campbell was born on June 3, 1927, to former Trellie and Lillian Allen Campbell in Spring Garden. He was an ordained minister and pastored several southern Illinois churches over the years. He was also a transformer designer at Dowzer Electric for 20 years plus. In his latter years, he served the village of Ina in numerous capacities. He loved the community of Ina in which he lived his entire life.
Wastina Faye Campbell was born on April 13, 1927, to former Homer and Alma Johnson McCann in Spring Garden. She was the oldest of six children and worked as a grocery clerk for over 15 years at Deason’s Grocery store in Ina.
They are survived by their only daughter, Sherry Leah Lee and husband Ken of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Michael Scott Lee and wife Lorie of Denver; granddaughter, Michelle Renee’ Blok and husband Brian of Mt. Vernon; great-grandson, Maddox Lee of Denver; sister, Freda Webb of Ewing; brother, Carl McCann and wife Mary Kay of Christopher; sister, Ruth Montgomery of Benton; brother, Jerry McCann and wife Mary Ann of Benton; sister-in-law, Peggy McCann of Ewing; and several nieces and nephews.
They were preceded in death by their parents; an infant sister, Thelma Campbell; brother, Junior McCann; and brothers-in-law, Charles Webb and Robert Montgomery.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Ina Free Will Baptist Church and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with funeral following at 10:30 a.m. at Ina Free Will Baptist Church.
Family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ina Free Will Baptist Church. Donations will be accepted by the Johnston Funeral Home.
