Amory – Dr. Roger Jefferson Bennett, 80, finished his work here on earth and met his Savior face to face on May 24, 2022. He was born on Christmas day in 1941 in Waverly, Ohio to the late Clifford and Lelia Cassity Bennett.
He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Waverly High School. He then furthered his education at Welch College where he obtained a Bachelors in Administration. Lastly, he received his Doctorate from Bethany Divinity College & Seminary School in Dothan, Alabama. Dr. Bennett served his whole life as both a teacher and a Pastor, helping others find Jesus. For a while, he worked at the Amory Christian Academy and he encouraged his students to strive for excellence. He dedicated his whole life to spreading the Gospel. A humble man, Dr. Bennett lived for God. He often teased and joked with others and made many friends through the years.
On August 19, 1972, he married the love of his life, Maxine Conard, and together they were blessed with a daughter, son-in-law, and a grandson. A Patriot, Dr. Bennett served for 20 years, retiring from the Army Alabama National Guard where he obtained the rank of Staff Sargent, E6. He also served in the Civil Air Patrol for many years. Dr. Bennett loved his country and his community and his daughter and grandson gave him great joy. He enjoyed Gospel music, especially music sung by Evangelist Caroll Roberson. In his free time, he liked spending time with his family, attending Amory Auctions where he enjoyed the lively banter, and also anything involving trains.
